Using IS for decision making.

2 Feb

IS is a key element of decision making in business. There are four stages of decision making in IS. These are:

  • Intelligence
  • Design
  • Choice
  • Implementation

Intelligence is identifying the problem in the organization.Design is finding solutions for the problem.Choice is choosing a solution for the problem.Implementation is making the choice work and monitoring it to ensure it continues to work. Managers in every level of an organization use IS to make important decisions.  Top level management use IS to get summaries of past data to make projections  for the future. Middle level management use information systems to monitor and control operational activities. At operational level supervisors may use IS to decide if they up to speed on orders and if they have enough materials available.
