Key characteristics of Data Flow Charts

Data Flow Charts are broadly used, easy to grasp and quite straightforward to develop.
They contain two separate parts:
  • a set of Data Flow Diagrams
  • a set of connected  textual descriptions
The main aim of Data Flow Charts are to support users with an applicable tool for understanding the information processes of a system.

The Data Flow Diagrams are diagrams that are made up of four symbols:
  • the external entity
  • the data store
  • the data flow
  • the processes
