Information can be defined as data that has been processed and is useful to others. A system is a collection of interrelated parts that work together to achieve one or more common purposes.

An information system is a set of interrelated components that collect , retrieve, process, store and distribute information to support decision making and control in an organisation. Information systems are a part of a broader computer science. Information systems focus on the system making use of technology available to it.Information technology can be described as a subset of information systems and is also part of the broader computer sciece. Information system components include data, hardware, software, telecommunications, and people.
