12 Feb

Information systems have become a major assset and component of successful businesses and organizations alike. To understand the trends in Information systems i think it is important to know what an information system is. Firstly information is data that has been processed which is useful to humman beings. Then we have a system which is a collection of inter relared parts which work together to achieve a common goal. Therefore the best definition for an information system is a set of interrelated components that collect, retrieve, process, store, and distribute information to support decision making and control in an organisation.
Information systems have evolved rapidly from the 1960’s. Back then they were used for recording transactions and still are used for that today. Now information systems are used for important decision making, operational services, used for new products and services being made available and vital for customers to an organisation. There is a big focus on the satisfaction of customers now that there ever was. A key trend in Information systems is how can it be used effectively by management. I.S is therefore more focused on business processes rather than individual processes.
In my next blog I will look more inot trends in I.S in more detail…
