19 Feb

Following on my last blog (Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in IS), I will now talk about the first phase of SDLC which is Planning.

The key to any successful project is proper planning. Planning, in any task, is extremely beneficial.

  • Increases efficiency
  • Gives right direction
  • Keeps good control
  • Helps achieve objectives
  • Encourages creativity and innovation
  • Helps in decision making

Planning in SDLC begins when a request is received from a user for systems development.

The steps in planning are:

  1. Identify
  2. Analyze
  3. Prioritize
  4. Arrange Information System Needs

During planning it is vital to establish a team who develop appropriate documentation, establish a project charter, business case and carry out a project feasibility study. (Legally, Technically, Economically)

The following video goes into further detail regarding the feasibility study:

Key Deliverables:

* General Problem Statement
* Team members and roles
* Feasibility Report
