Continuing on from my last post in this blog i will talk about the Management Information System (MIS) and the Decision Support System (DSS).
MIS takes data from the transaction processing systems as seen in diagram. The MIS summarises the results of the transaction processing system and other information to produces useful information to middle and lower management. MIS is different to other systems as it analyses and facilitates strategic and operational activities.
DSS are designed to help management make decisions for the good of the organisation. They are designed to help make management the best possible decision when a situation arises where there is uncertainty over the outcomes. DSS is capable of deriving options and alternatives from relevant info gathered. DSS often involves use of complex spreadsheet and databases to create “what-if” models.
