Behaviroal skills vs. technical skills

27 Feb

Hi guys hope you did not get bored yet:D
Today I would like to talk about different set of skills that analyst should have to perform his job to the highest standards. There are some skills that each analyst should have, but which is more important, technical or behavioral(people) skills. System analyst must rely on “people” skills to interact with users during the most important stages of problem definition and analysis, where minimum technical skills is necessary. Management should invest some money to provide a necessary training to system analyst in developing behavioral skills. Users on the other side expect more technical skills from system analyst as they become more literate in working with computers they may have greater expectations for the display of technical wizardry by systems analysts. I think both sets of skills are equally important as to build really good system you need to gather reliable information to what you need behavioral (people) skills, and to build the structure of the system, the need of software and hardware etc, the technical skills.

What do you think is the best way for an IS analyst to develop behavioural skills? Through work experience?

this is one way, the other way is to take some trainings in the subject of human behaviour. in my opinion not many people realize how improtant helpful this trainings are.

Great blog 😀 Very well written. Do you think that it would be extremely important to have good people skills to be a good system analyst? or should it even matter when they are good at designing systems ? 😀

I think you should have good people skills to be good system analyst as to design good system you need good information, to gather them you need to talk to people. This is my opinion and it could be different to others… 😀

I totally agree 😀 If don’t have good people skills, you will find it extremely difficult to find out the requirements of the business or for the customers. It is awful talking to a person who just does not have good people skills and just don’t care how they make you feel 😀

    Thanks 😀
