Managing dysfuctional project teams

Ideally while working in a team we would love if everyone got on but not all i.s teams are perfect.Working in a project team can be difficult and sometimes challenging. There is a mix of people with diverse skills and experiences within the team and often this leads to a clash of personalities and ideas.It is important to have clear management to ensure that the project does not suffer because of this.

Every team should start with some team building exercises to get to know each other and to build a rapport with each other.It is then easier for project members to interact with each other when the ice has been broken.It gives them a shared experience which they can then bond over.

The leader should set small and manageable goals.This will build the groups confidence as a whole, keep them focused and will help keep the project on track.
The channels of communication should remain open all the time. Communication is essential for a project to be successful.If any issues or problems come up during the project it is important for the appropriate people to be aware of them so that they can be rectified as soon as possible.

If there is a problem the leader should step in straight away so it doesn’t escalate. They should act as mediator to solve the issue so that it does not affect the project. They should identify the root of the problem and see if there are any recurring issues throughout the project.
