The Construction of a Flowchart & DFDs :)

4 Mar

There are a few very important, but basic steps involved when constructing a flowchart.

1.Identify the process involved.
2.Identify the particular stages involved in the process.
3.Identify the decisions that need to be made.
4.Construct the flowchart;always remember that flowcharts need to begin and end with a terminal.
5.A flowchart should preferably fit into one page, but if not an off-page connector needs to be used.
6.Possibly use comments at some stages during the process if necessary.
7.A flowchart needs to contain a title

There are also a few very important steps involved when constructing a DFD

1.Read and re-read the text you are given.
2.Extract important information and make assumptions.
3.Identify the entities in the text-depicted by nouns.
4.Highlight the process.
5.Identify data flows from within the text.
6.Construct a DFD using the information, labeling the entities, data flow and the main process.

Very relevant as this is something we have just covered in class too. Very cleara and too the point easy to understand also. I think the whole year will benefit from this blog due to the fact it is something that might come up in the summer exams !!
