Stages of System Development LifeCycle- Maintenance

9 Mar

In my previous blogs I have discussed the first four stages of the SDLC: planning, analysis, design and implementation. In this blog I will briefly discuss the fifth and final stage of the SDLC, maintenance.
The maintenance stage of the SDLC begins as soon as the new system is operational. It is the longest of all the SDLC phases as it begins as soon as the new system is operational and continues until the system is obsolete.
The main objectives of the maintenance stage are to monitor the performance of the new system, rectify bugs in the system and make any changes that are requested by the systems users.
As soon as the new system is operational it will require maintenance on an on-going basis in order to meet the requirements of the users efficiently.
The key deliverables of the Maintenance stage are:
• Keep the system alive
• Maintain the systems code
• Update the systems software when required
Here is a YouTube video that will aid your understanding of the maintenance phase of the SDLC:
